Egyptians who forced President Hosni Mubarak to step down from power in February after 30 years of semi-autocratic rule are divided over whether to take part in upcoming general elections before rewriting the constitution or doing it the other way around, the Beirut-based influential daily AN NAHAR said June 26. "Although it was decided on March 19, when amendments were introduced to the constitution, allowing for holding general elections in September, before the new legislature writes a new constitution, the debate on whether to hold elections before rewriting the constitution or after the amendments are made is far from being settled," the newspaper said.
